I really would like some help. My problems with SpySheriff are similar to the others I've read: I've used Norton AntiVirus, Windows Defender, Ad-Aware SE, Spybot - Search and Destory, Housecall Anti Virus, and MacAfee AVERT Stinger in an attempt to remove the virus. However, like others infected with the same virus, my computer is still running slowly, especially Internet Explorer (it's slow to begin with, and the connection cuts out completely after about 15 minutes).

Since all computers are set up differently, I thought it would be wise to ask for help on my system. Thank you all in advance for help!

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new hijack log.

The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.
=============================

Download http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
· Restart your computer
· After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
· Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
· Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
· Choose your usual account.
· Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
· Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
· It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
· Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
· When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
· Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
· Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

You need to do the SDFix portion of post #2

===========================
Download Superantispyware

http://www.superantispyware.com/superantis...efreevspro.html

Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
· It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click Yes.
· Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
· Click the Scanning Control tab.
· Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
o Close browsers before scanning
o Scan for tracking cookies
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
o Please leave the others unchecked.
o Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.
· On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
· On the left check C:\Fixed Drive.
· On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.
· Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
· After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click OK.
· Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click Next.
· It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click Yes.
· To retrieve the removal information for me please do the following:
o After reboot, double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop.
o Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.
o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
o It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
o Please highlight everything in the notepad, then right-click and choose copy.
· Click close and close again to exit the program.
· Please paste that information here for me with a new HijackThis log.

Here's the new batch of logfiles, fresh out of "The Oven"!

1. SDFix
2. Superantispyware
3. HijackThis

As a side note, Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, and various system processes "feel" much better. There's almost no slowdown on IE anymore. Whatever these programs are doing, it sure seems to be working.

Please disable WordWrap in notepad before posting any new logs. Otherwise the logs are unreadable.
(Notepad -> Format -> uncheck WordWrap)

======================

Please download: http://www.uploads.ejvindh.net/rustbfix.exe and save it to your desktop.

Double click on rustbfix.exe to run the tool. If a Rustock.b-infection is found, you will shortly be asked to reboot the computer. The reboot will probably take quite a while, and perhaps 2 reboots will be needed. But this will happen automatically. After the reboot 2 logfiles will open (%root%\avenger.txt & %root%\rustbfix\pelog.txt). Post the content of those logs along with a new HijackThis log from normal mode.

WordWrap is disabled. Sorry about that; I didn't realize it would make a difference.

Also, IE, Windows Explorer, and previously mentioned system processes are still working beautifully.

You may want to print this or save it to notepad as we will go to safe mode.
=========

Download Win32delfkil.exe: http://users.telenet.be/marcvn/tools/win32delfkil.exe
Save it on your desktop.
Double click on win32delfkil.exe and install it.
This creates a new folder on your desktop: win32delfkil
Close all windows, open the win32delfkil folder and double click on fix.bat.

The computer will reboot automatically.

===========
Fix these with HiJackThis – mark them, close IE, click fix checked

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [jmlcv4m] C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdmvdlxe.exe

O4 - Global Startup: KVG.exe

DownLoad http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip or
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/killbox.exe

Restart your computer into safe mode now. (Tapping F8 at the first black screen) Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Standard File Kill. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\KVG.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdmvdlxe.exe

Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.

START – RUN – type in %temp% - OK - Edit – Select all – File – Delete

Delete everything in the C:\Windows\Temp folder or C:\WINNT\temp

Not all temp files will delete and that is normal
Empty the recycle bin
Boot and post a new hijack log from normal NOT safe mode

Please give feedback on what worked/didn’t work and the current status of your system

System Status Report: Everything seems to be running normally (ie. like before the system infection). I've tested various programs (Internet Explorer, Firefox, various games, word processing programs, Microsoft office, etc.) and they run very well. I can't notice any difference between now and normal functioning.

When I ran Win32delfkil.exe, it didn't create a fix.bat. It did, however, create a logfile. I'll post it in this reply.

All HijackThis functions worked normally (both the file fixing and the post-scan). Killbox.exe was able to delete sdmvdlxe.exe, but it couldn't find KVG.exe I suppose this is because it was deleted by HijackThis.

Removing temporary files worked well, except that my computer seems to not have a WINNT folder. Is it a hidden file?
