If you are going to use this computer on line you will want a firewall, anti virus, malware, and spyware protection. If you don't have these I can suggest the following free softwares.

Zone Alarm

AVG anti virus and malware

A-squared

Spybot Search and Destroy

I'm not sure what you had in mind when you said movies or editing, but if you are looking for software to use in backing up your DVDs the you could try DVD Shrink.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

for movie making, there is Windows Movie Maker. It is a small program where you can make home movies and send them as email attachments. It should be installed on your laptop already.

I would add these to your list:

CCleaner
PDFCreator
Foxit Reader
Ad-Aware
SuperAntiSpyware
