Hi

I am a new member, I came across your forum while searching Google for help with my problem. It seems to be slow on startup and when I close down the pc it always makes a sound and a grey error message box comes up but before I can see what it says it switches off! I have run Ad-aware which found some stuff and then I ran Spybot S&D which found even more stuff and I've now done a HJT. Could you tell me if I need to get rid of anything please?

Hello andaco36 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I do not see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. There are a couple of search redirectors in there so let's clean those out while you are here.

We need to disable TeaTimer so it soes not interfere with the changes we are going to make.
  • Start Spybot-S&D.
  • Go to the Mode menu, and make sure Advanced Mode is selected.
  • On the left hand side, choose Tools and then click on Resident.
  • Uncheck Resident TeaTimer and choose OK for any further prompts.
  • Restart your computer.
Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi...fo/bt_side.html

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Other than that the log is clean.

A couple of optional things you could:

Remove these installed programs using Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel:
  • Click Start.
  • Click Control Panel.
  • Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • Look in the Currently installed programs box for each program listed below and if it is there:
  • Click on it to select it.
  • Click Change (or Change/Remove) button.
  • If you are prompted to confirm the removal of the program, click Yes.
Logitech Desktop Messenger
Spybot S&D is also set to run at startup and automatically do a scan. There is no need for that on every bootup and running a system scan takes time a resources. I would disable that at startup and run the scan manually when you want to.

Otherwise you are good to go.

Cheers.
