Hi J-Unit, :flowers:

Did you run HijackThis in safe mode? If so please run HijackThis in Normal mode and post the log here by using the Add Reply button; I'll be happy to look at it for you.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi J-Unit,

Welcome to BleepingComputer Forums and thanks again for your patience.

1. Your log shows a very dangerous worm is present on your computer: W32.Alcra.F, a worm that attempts to propagate through various file-share networks accessible with BearShare, LimeWire, Morpheus and Shareaza applications. It also attempts to disable several programs on the compromised computer and drops a variant of W32.Spybot.Worm onto the compromised computer.

Furthermore there is Win32.Alcan.H. Alcan.H drops a copy of Win32.Rbot.DZS. Click the next link for more information on the Win32.Rbot family of worms.

These worms also have backdoor functionalities. They process commands on the local machine giving remote users virtual control over the infected system.
It is possible that the remote attacker has added multiple backdoors and/or accounts or even rooted the computer.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or it if it contains any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

2. To begin with update AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5:
  • Load AVG Anti-Spyware and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do not run it yet.
3. Next download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop.
  • Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
  • Click "Next"
  • In the box to choose where to extract the files to, click "Browse"
  • Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
  • Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
  • Click "Make New Folder"
  • Type in BFU
  • Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
4. RIGHT-CLICK HERE and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download Alcan worm remover.
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Do not do anything with these yet!

5. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. To boot into Safe Mode, please restart your computer. Tap F8 before Windows loads. Select Safe Mode on the screen that appears.

6. Once in Safe Mode, please go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.
  • Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
  • Next to the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon Posted Image and select alcanshorty.bfu
  • Press Execute and let it do itís job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
  • Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
  • Press exit to terminate the BFU program.
7. AVG Anti-Spyware scan:
  • Run AVG Anti-Spyware and click on the Scanner tab at the top and then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run, so be prepared.
  • AVG Anti-Spyware will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. Ewido will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
  • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
  • Restart back into Normal Mode.
8. Run HijackThis, click the Config... button, then go to the Misc Tools section and click Open Uninstall Manager. You'll see a list of programs; click on Save List...

The file "uninstall_list.txt" will be created. Copy and paste the contents of this file to your next reply.

9. You're using an outdated version of Java (latest one is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0). Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please update and remove the older versions. Do the following:
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )

It should have next icon next to it: Posted Image
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:

    Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0
Please post uninstall_list.txt together with the AVG Anti-Spyware report and a new HIjackThis log.

First off just wanna say thanks for helping me with this

and i ran everything as you said step by step, including the new version of java, but when i got to the AVG full system scan it said something like blah blah theres an exception and AVG needs to close. and it went through that usual popup when something had to close. here are the reports i have so far, minus the AVG of course because it closed before the scan was halfway done.

Hi J-Unit,

First off just wanna say thanks for helping me with this

You're very welcome.

1. Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel and double-click on Add or Remove Programs. From within Add or Remove Programs uninstall the following program if listed:

CasProg
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_02
Paradise Poker
PokerStars.net
WildTangent Web Driver

> Also, you still have LimeWire in your list of programmes. Multiple versions of LimeWire include spyware. I highly recommend uninstalling it and replacing it with a clean P2P program. You can find a list of clean P2P programs here!
Some versions of Limewire come bundled with unwanted programs and malware, some don't and this changes all the time. Limewire 4.12.6 may be OK. It's your choice.

Just be aware that, even "clean" P2P program use is high risk:

http://www.us-cert.gov/cas/tips/ST05-007.html
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=282

You may have Limewire set up more securely, but pay particular attention to susceptibility to attack in those articles. I see many users with folders chock full of malware after using "clean" versions of Limewire.

> Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
Additional info: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_137262.htm
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

* Viewpoint Manager
* Viewpoint Media Player

> Weatherbug is a program that sits in your System Tray (next to the clock) and delivers the weather. It used to come with spyware, and whilst the latest version is spyware free, it is an advertisment-supported program which many users find annoying. There is a very good ad-free alternative: Weather Pulse!

Right-click the Weatherbug icon on your taskbar and delete it. Then click Start > All Programmes and search the list for Weatherbug: click Uninstall Weatherbug.

2. Run HijackThis, click Scan and checkmark the following entries:
