Hello, I am running Win XP, recently after deleting files, I went to empty the recycle bin and there was nothing in it. Also it does not do confirm delete. I checked property settings, which are as follows: In Global tab use one setting for all drives is marked and Display delete confirmation is marked.
Please help with this issue.. Thanks

I notice that you are a new member.
Are you using these basic programs?
a free-a complementary product to antivirus software which is specialized in protection against harmful software. Antivirus software often features an inadequate protection against Trojans, Dialers and Spyware. a fills this gap.
Ad-Aware-A good program similar to SpyBot S & D.
Spybot S&D-Detects and removes spyware, of different types, from your computer.
SpywareBlaster-A good program that prevents spyware from being installed on your computer in the first place. This program is always running in the background, protecting your computer. It prevents the installation of bad active X controls found in web pages.
SpywareGuard-A nice compliment to SpywareBlaster. This allows you the option to prevent downloads that contain bad active X controls.

If not, you need to. These programs, updated and used regularly, will do a lot to keep your computer clean of spyware, trojans, keyloggers, browser hijackers, etc...

Download them, update them, and then run them.

Important:
Please read this tutorial on Spybot S&D before using it. Spybot can do SERIOUS damage, if not used properly.

If that doesn't help, then:

Download the latest version of HijackThis (HJT), from here.

Put HijackThis in a Permanent folder:
Click My Computer / C: / File / New / Folder / name the folder; HijackThis
Put HijackThis.exe, in this folder.
This is a mandatory step, for the backup and restore functions, of HijackThis, to be able to work.

Read the pinned post in the HJT forum, here

Then, run a log, and post it in the HJT forum, at this link. Do not, fix anything, yet.
A member, of the HJT Team, will help you out.
Please, be patient, these people are volunteers. They will help you out, as soon as possible.

Hi Susan, still having trouble? The hard working volunteers will be looking for your log in another forum. If you haven't already done so, try posting it here.
You'll get a response as soon as possible. Have faith, these guys really know their stuff. Also, there is a setting that will stop your files from going to the recycle bin and delete them directly. If your not a very experienced user, your problem may be as simple as changing this setting.

Hi thanks for your response, the settings are to confirm file delete, and to store files in the recycle bin, the files are simply dissappearing, when they are deleted, when my Dad went to his recycle bin to empty there was nothing there, as there usually is. Is it possible to be the VX2 Transponder??

Thanks Susan

Have you installed those programs I suggested?
Run those first, then run a new HJT log. Then, as cjsears said, post the log in the HJT forum, located at this link.

You also need to follow the directions previously posted:
Put HijackThis in a Permanent folder:
Click My Computer / C: / File / New / Folder / name the folder; HijackThis
Put HijackThis.exe, in this folder.
This is a mandatory step, for the backup and restore functions, of HijackThis, to be able to work.

Good luck with your HJT log. The Team should be able to fix you right up, and get your Dad's PC acting like it's old self, once again.

Hello,

My Dad has bought a lot of so called spyware programs, Stopzilla, bug eliminators, Error guards, he is almost 80, he went to the first site suggested for a fix A-squared and it asked for 29.95 from him.. I told him to stop pulling out his credit card for everything that pops up on the screen. I have told him to wait for me to come there this week before he proceeds any furthur, I had him download and update Hijack this and he sent his log file to me and I posted it in the HJT forum, and I haven't heard anything from that group at all. So when I get to his PC where I can have hands on instead of phone directions. I will do all the suggested fixes, providing they don't ask for credit card.. Thanks for the assistance so far.

Hello Susan,

A squared Personal is $29.95, A squared Free doesn't cost anything.
On the link I gave you, A squared Free is listed on the left, under A squared Personal.
Here's a direct link to A squared Free. The free download is located at the very bottom of the page.

What are the names of the security programs he bought and uses?. I want to check them against a list of known rogue Spyware programs. Some of these programs install more spyware than they remove.

The ones I recommended are all safe, and used by most of the regulars here. They are all FREE.
