i'm having trouble for the last few days with my computer.

it happened after browsing a certain website, can't remember the site's name though.

after accessing the site, AVG antivirus found a virus "Trojan Horse Generic2.mct" that inffected 10 files. then AVG antispyware detected Downloader.Agent.uj. And since then my machine started acting very wierd and unstable. whenever i access, select or browse files in a folder, or when try to transfer files to a folder or a new location, explorer stopped responding; and in TaskManager, explorer.exe's status is "is not responding". another issue is my machine randomly crashes, i suddenly cannot access my desktop nor any programs or apps currently opened. i could only use ALT+TAB and CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and the latter is the only way i could restart or shut down my machine.

lastly, everytime i use AVG antivirus, anti-spyware, Adaware, Spybot S&D to scan it always stop functioning or stop responding when it reaches a certain portion of its scanning. it's not consistent though, sometimes before it reaches 50% of its scanning progress, sometimes after 50%. and for the virus detected by AVG, it was quarantined and removed.

anyway, here's my hijackthis log :

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

* Please download FixwareOut from one of the following sites:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

Note: ONLY if you have connection problems after performing above steps - go to Start -> Control Panel, and choose Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically. Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

Hello,

Delete csrbl.exe present in your C:\Windows\system32-folder

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

Hi miekiemoes, first i'd like to say thank you.

okay, i followed all the instructions and after using & observing my machine for morethan a week i could say that it's fine. All the issues & troubles i had from my first post didn't happen again; but i encountered 1 minor prob with AVG watch or avgw.exe. It took almost all of my cpu usage, flactuating from 25 to 100%, and my machine was running very slow, took alot of time to open applications and hard drives.

I did a chkdsk to check the hard drive for file/system errors; and after restarting my machine, the avgw.exe problem was resolved. Although avgw.exe is not using a lot of my cpu usage, but i couldn't see avgw.exe running in the "task manager". so, i'm a little worried that if AVG watch is not running silently in the background my computer may not be protected from threats like viruses, malwares, etc. anymore. does this change anything with AVG? is it protecting my machine? is there anything i need to do?

Another thing, my firewall's configuration got refreshed back to its original configuration. All the applications, services, processes, ports i previously allowed were changed back to "ask".

I'm using Sygate 5.6 firewall, and i would like to ask for help with regards to what & which windows services, system files, processes, i need to grant "allow". what do i do with lsass.exe, inetinfo.exe, svchost.exe, csrss.exe, ndisuio.sys, ipnat.sys, rasppoe.sys and etc? also, i'm sharing my internet connection to another computer (networked). what configuration do i need for the other machine to access internet? how about the ports? anything else i need to do?

i'm using windows XP pro, with only 256mb of ram. i have very slight knowledge about firewalls, its usage and operation. really like to learn more about it.

hoping for your reply.

btw, if this reply needs to have its own thread and considered OT, then please let me know and i'll gladly make one.

Hi,

I guess you mean the AVG Watch from AVG Antipsyware? Yes, it is normal that it doesn't run anymore, because that one is only active during the trial. Once the trial has expired, the AVG Antispyware Guard disables itself.
You can still run AVG Antispyware manually and update it manually, but won't act as a realtime guard anymore.

But don't worry, you have AVG Antivirus running in the background, protecting your system.

lsass.exe, inetinfo.exe, svchost.exe, csrss.exe, ndisuio.sys, ipnat.sys, rasppoe.sys and etc

yes, allow them.
If you can currently share with other computers, then don't change anything in your Sygate related with that.
Since every system is different, I cannot really tell you what to change in the Sygate settings or modify for every program you are having. But there are some great online articles how to configure Sygate in general:
http://www.howtodothings.com/computers/a81...all-for-xp.html
http://dcpp.net/faq/index.php?action=artik...&artlang=en
http://www.hackfix.org/software/configure/sygate.html

Or just use google and search for : "Configure Sygate"

Or if you want to know how to configure certain programs/ports in your Sygate, you'll find a lot of answers in google when you use the searchterm: "Sygate+name of the program" or "Sygate+portname"

Also, since you only have 256MB, read this how to improve computer performance in general: http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiem...owcomputer.html

miekiemoes, thanks very much for all your help. really appreciate it.

Recently, this past few days Sygate firewall is acting little strange. maybe it's not Sygate, i'm not not sure. Explorer.exe, SpywareGuard & some other programs tried to contact or connect to IP address 224.0.0.22 very frequently. From my observation, most of the time it was triggered by connecting to the internet. Sygate would alert me, but i didn't allow the request.

just like to know if my machine is being threatened? was i infected? is this normal? & what is this 224.0.0.22? i googled it but didn't quite understand it.

another thing is when i use firefox after a few hours, my computer gets very slow; and especially when i leave the machine for a while before using it again. this happened after i installed flashgot. just wondering if this is okay? not a problem?

pls. let me know if i need to post a new hijackthis report.

Hi,

Nothing to worry about.. I've found these similar threads:
http://forums.sygate.com/vb/showthread.php?postid=62387
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/lofiversion/...php/t43918.html

The IP address range that starts with 224/8 is in the multicast range.

Also another quote:

While scanning a multicast thread, the firewall identifies incorrectly a process trying to connect to an Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) IP address. This IP address is reserved only to IGMP and is not routable, which means it will not get outside of the local network. The warning can be safely ignored.

Concerning your Firefox becoming slow... If this started after installing flashgot, then maybe uninstall it again.
As far as I know, flashgot is ok though.

didn't quite get the qoute though, all i understood is that it's not a threat & since it's not gonna get outside of the local network, i think i'm safe & that there's nothing to worry about.

now my only question is : do i allow it or not ?
