Haven't had any sound on computer in a while.

When I check under properties theres two entries under sound, video, and game controllers.

The first has no exclamation mark and SB PCI(WDM) is the name I guess.

The second has exclamation mark and unknown device and says no drivers.

When I try to open a music file this error message comes up.

Windows media player cannot play this file because theres a problems with your sound device.

There may not be a sound device, or it might be in use by another program, or it might not be funtioning properly

The same message happens when I insert a CD to play.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You either need to downlaod and install the sound drivers or the sound device (onboard or PCI card) has gone bad.

Download and install EVEREST Free Edition 2.20 to discover what your sound hardware setup is and where to locate the driver(s).

Open Everest. In the left panel select the + sign next to Computer to expand then select Summary. In the right panel look under Multimedia for your sound device. What is listed?
