Hello

Helping a friend with an Evesham laptop and on the driver cd that comes with it to install the wireless lan says:

Installing Wireless LAN driver for Windows XP

1. Click the Start button, then point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click the System icon, change to Hardware tag, then click on the Device Manager folder tab. You will find the Network Adapters.
3. Right-click RF Controller, and Select Driver tag, then choose Update Driver.
4. Tick Install from a list of specific location (Advanced) and then click Next.
5. Click the "Include this location in the search". Then, click Browse button and point to the Wireless LAN driver location as "E:\Drivers\WinXP\Wireless LAN". Click Next to search and to install the driver.
6. Click Finish button to finish installing Wireless LAN driver.

I can get up to the point 3 getting to the Device Manager easily enough but there isnt anything called RF Controller only SIS something i cant quite remember as i am not on it as it doesnt have a connection on the other well that is the problem trying to install that haha

Oh and installed the Wireless Device Utility as the driver cd calls it but it says something like off but again i cant quite remember exactly

Thanks for anyone that can help the instructions are a little  as it says go to E:\ the cd is not E though lol

oh well

thanks for any help im pretty stuck

The instructions have you go into the device manager. Once there, do you see a listing for Network Adapters? If so, there should be a plus (+) sign to the left of it. Click on this plus sign. Now you should see RF Controller.

Let us know if this does not help.

E:\ the cd is not E though

Just substitute the proper drive letter for the cd drive when told to enter E:. If you are not sure what the proper cd drive letter is, go to:
Start > My Computer. Here you will find the drive listed along with it's assigned letter designation.

yes there was not an "RF Controller" under the device manager though thats where i got confused

i tried "updating" what was there and it did seem to copy some files with the little folder icon moving things and restarted but nothing

edit:. probably wont be able to get to it until later or tomorrow but any comments are welcomed

Be sure to click the plus sign next to Network Adapters and tell us what is listed.

One more question: Is this wireless capability built into the machine, or do you need to add an antenae?

Well, neither one of those is for wireless, so I don't know what to tell you.

Do you see any items in the device manager that has a yellow exclamation point next to it?
