Hi all, i was at a friends house trying to fix his graphics, but he cant install it.

I dunno why but when he trys to install the display driver, it says " setup was unable to complete the installation. try tp setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running the setup."

Anyone know how to resolve this?

Try installing this driver HERE (directly from ATI). You can download either the catalyst control center or just the graphic drivers. If you download the catalyst control center, read the next paragraph before installing. Also, take a few minutes to read the installation instructions.

The only time that I've ever had troubles with my old 9600pro (which now runs like new in my sons machine) was when I didn't have microsoft's .net frame work installed (which is required by the catalyst control center). You have to have the .net framework installed before installing the catalyst control center (install then restart). Read about it and follow the link HERE.

Install the .net framework then restart. Then, install the catalyst control center and restart. If it won't work try installing just the graphic drivers.

If none of this works, post back and let us know and we'll help you more! I've owned the 9600 pro for quite a while, and installing the .net framework has solved the only issues that I've had with installation problems! Hope it works for you!

Well, yes. When windows won't start, or if the computer keeps restarting, there's a problem.

Another issue to keep in mind about installing programs, is that sometimes an Anti-Virus (AV) program will not let things install correctly. You can always unplug a computer from the internet, then turn off your AV and try instaling it.

My recommendation is to have him post here at this site and we'll work with him to first get his computer running correctly, then to get his graphics card working.
