I down loaded a bunch of windows up-dates into my daughters windows 98 4 gig hard drive last night.
Today when I try to start the machine the hard drive starts spinning and then just quits.
Nothing on the screen, no lights on the keyboard, no beeps. Nothing.
Could it be that I've over filled the drive? I know she's got a lot of music and photos in there.
I'm considering putting the drive in a baggie and then in the deep freeze for a few hours to see if I can get it to run long enough to scrub out ALL of the music and some the photos and jpegs she's got in there.
I've unplugged the cd and the floppy to take some strain off the PSU but that did nothing.
I need to fix this quick cause' when she finds out what my up-grades did to her machine, well I'm sure you can guess.

Thank you.
Greg

I suspect something other than the updates has done this. It could be many things, but the most likely is a hardware failure. Seeing as it's a Win98 system, it's probably getting old and there could easily have been a hardware failure.

Try stripping the system down as far as you can and then use this troubleshooting guide: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/70216/hardware-troubleshooting-via-system-stripdown/
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
