I seem to have picked up a bug! I run crapcleaner and it closes almost immediatly. Same thing with regedit. Also it looks like when searching the net for an answer, some pages trigger this to close the browser. I have started in safe mode and run adaware and spybot s&d which found nothing obvious. I tried a couple online virus searchs that claimed they may have found something, but then want to be paid to remove them, so I am not sure about those. I downloaded hijackthis and ran it but do not know what I am looking for. Does anyone recognize these symptoms?

Running XP Pro

Thanks in advance

Welcome to BC

I'm glad you decided not to do anything with HiJack This as it takes someone experienced in malware removal to understand and use it correctly.

I suggest you follow the directions in this guide. Then create an HJT log, you will find the directions in the guide.

Create a new topic in this forum, not here and give it a good descriptive title. Briefly summarize what the problems are, what you have done to try to solve it, and what worked and didn't work and paste in your HJT log.

After you post your log, DO NOT make any further changes to your computer: deleting files, editing the registry, using special fix tools, installing or uninstalling software etc. as this will make it more difficult for the HJT team to help you.

Please be patient as the HJT team is very busy. DO NOT bump your log as the team may think that someone is already helping you. If you have not had a response in five days, add a response to the five days no response topic and paste in the link to your thread.

Which OnLine Virus searches did you use?

Did you download them from a popup?

Tmack, I am following Orange Blossom's instructions. I ran Housecall and it did find a couple of things:
TSPY_ANALOGXPROXY
ADWARE_ABETTERINTERNET
TROJ_GENERIC
TROJ_GENERIC.Z

I let it clean as instructed and now I am running stinger. After I reboot, if the problem is still there, I will proceed with the hijack posting intructions.

Thanks for your help
