Setting Up Password For Router......

Can anyone teach me step by step on setting up password for our router, i have asked almost everyone of my friends to help me guide in this but turn out they all using main cable rather than wireless.....haiz and because of this my router has been pw free. I have try to enter the page for setting up pw by typing our default gateway at the browser, however it need a pw and username.

Oh btw i using Dlink router. My sis say the setting up pw for Dlink is different from Linksys, is it true?

Which model of the DLink are you using?
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
