All last nght my Mozila and IE browser get encountering the same problem. It's like I was disconnected from the Internet but I was able to communicate ok on MSN Messenger. I asked about it in the chat room and someone told me to paste a log from Hijack This in one of the forums here. I had some trouble finding the right category. I hope this is the right one.
Could someone please help me? It seems ok now but it may start again and I have college work to do.

Hello Chris_com28 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I see no signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. If things are running fine now it was probably just a hiccup in the system or at the ISP.

Here are a couple of suggestions for cleaning the system up a bit:

1 - Uninstall Logitech's Desktop Messenger. It serves no useful purpose other than to allow Logitech to send you messages regarding their products and services and it creates a long list of uneeded protocols (see all the 018's):

Remove these installed programs using Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel:
  • Click Start.
  • Click Control Panel.
  • Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • Look in the Currently installed programs box for each program listed below and if it is there:
  • Click on it to select it.
  • Click Change (or Change/Remove) button.
  • If you are prompted to confirm the removal of the program, click Yes.
Logitech Desktop Messenger
2 - Clean out your temporary folders:

Download ATF Cleaner
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser, do this also:
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose Select All from the list.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE : If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser, do this also:
  • Click Opera at the top and choose Select All from the list.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE : If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

3 - Update your java:

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
Note: If there is an Update XX in the name then the "XX" in the version will be whatever the latest version is.
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0 Update XX (if present).
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_XX-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Other than that you are good to go.

Cheers.

Thanks for thr advice. I've done all that's suggested. So is Java related to flash games? I've noticed I am now able to play certain games on Mozila which I couldnt do before. I tried to do updates though Mozila but they've failed.
Well it's a shame I couldn't get my other problem sorted out. Maybe someone else could ehlp me with that.

Hi Chris_com28. It's possible that the website using flash made so java calls to set the game up. Otherwise they are basically 2 separate entities.

What other problem needs to be sorted out yet? Let me know.

Cheers.

Well I'm not "home" now and unable to connect my laptop to the Internet, but as soon as I do I'll be back to get some more help.
