It's not all that easy - a straight copy won't preserve the structure of the file system, so it won't work when you try to restore it.
The easiest tool for this is probably Acronis True Image - it will create a "Secure Zone" partition with all the drive information. Then, using the boot up disk that it prompts you to make, you can restore the system to it's current state in 20 minutes.
BTW - If you're considering upgrading to Vista, get the Acronis True Image Home Version 10 - as it's the only one that will work with Vista.
The drawback here is the cost - Acronis True Image runs about $50 US.
