Hello, this is my first post here. I'll welcome any help you guys dish out. About my problem, I hear it's normal to have multiple svchost.exe files running. I'm unsure though because when there's usually 1 or more copy of a running process in the task manager it's spy or mal ware. There's also 2 other problems I want to mention. Previously I had another problem where I had up to five iexplore.exe princesses running at the same time with my internet explorer clearly off. Ad-aware, Online Panda Anti-Virus scan, and Spybot didn't detect anything. So I did a search for body dent.exe which would pop up in the task manager every time I failed to close the iexplore.exe processes and deleted it. It hasn't crawled back but could you also check the registry for that? My final problem is "Start Now Navigation Helper." Everytime I try to uninstall it in control panels It says "major error" and that I'm missing a .dll file to uninstall it. I can't find it in search either. Here's my hijackthis logfile. Any help is appreciated.

Your log shows that you are seriously behind on windows updates. It is essential that you update your windows before we continue to help you as the infections could reoccur. Go to http://www.windowsupdate.com and if it asks to install software, let it. Then click on the Scan link and let it do its thing. When its done you will see on your left a section called critical updates. Click on that section and install everything that you can. When it prompts you to reboot, do so. Then repeat this process again until there are no more critical updates listed.

You are running HijackThis from your Desktop. You will need to move hijackthis.exe to a permanent folder, such as c:\hjt . This has to be done as HijackThis creates backups when you fix items. You do not want them accidentally deleted or spread all over your Desktop.

First create a new folder:
A. Click My Computer icon on your desktop
B. Click C: drive
C. Click the File menu --> New --> Folder, a folder "New folder" will be created.
D. Rename it HJT

Move\Unzip hijackthis.exe to the c:\HJT folder.

Something went wrong when you posted the log - some letters & symbols are missing.

Run HijackThis.exe Press the Scan button, then Save Log.
Notepad will open.

In Notepad click
Edit menu --> Select All
then
Edit menu --> Copy

When responding to a post from one of our HJT Team members, please reply in the same topic - click the Add Reply button. Do not create a new topic for your reply. This will cause confusion and only cause a delay in the help you are receiving.

Right click in the message area and click on the paste option to paste the log into the post.

Do you have a firewall and an AntiVirus ?
AVG is free - www.grisoft.com
ZoneAlarm is free - www.zonelabs.com
Everyday is virus day. Do you know where your recovery CDs are ?
Did you create them yet ?

downloaded the latest critical updates

Your Windows is not up-to-date, and it is still very vulnerable.
You should take seriously into consideration the installation of Service Pack two:
Windows XP Service Pack 2

and installed AVG and ZoneAlarm

Cool !

Do you have Messenger Plus installed ? This program is known to install malware. I would advise that you remove this program from your computer. Messenger Plus installed Lop.com Adware on your computer.

Optional:
You have Wild Tangent installed. Wild Tangent collects information about you and your usage. The advertisements may also contain pornographic or other material that you might find inappropriate. You can follow these instructions to uninstall it: No. 8 - Uninstallation .

Download System Security Suite here:
System Security Suite Download & Tutorial. Unzip it to your desktop.
Install the program. Don't use it yet.

Please print or copy these instructions because you are not able to access the Internet in SafeMode.

Make sure you are set to show hidden files and folders:
A. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
B. Click the View tab.
C. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
D. Uncheck Hide extensions for known filetypes and Hide protected operating system files.
How to see hidden files in Windows

REBOOT into SafeMode by tapping F8 key repeatedly at bootup: Starting your computer in Safe mode

Run HijackThis!, press Scan, and put a check mark next to all these:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {49C770B4-2CA8-C3E9-0EEC-6493D8ED1CDF} - C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\APPLIC~1\MAGSME~1\Refupload.exe

O8 - Extra context menu item: SirSearch - file://C:\Program Files\PWRSMND1\Cache\SelectedContextSearch.htm

O16 - DPF: {205FF73B-CA67-11D5-99DD-444553540002} (CInstall Class) - http://www.wildtangent.com/webdrivers/webi...ave/Install.cab
O16 - DPF: {AB29A544-D6B4-4E36-A1F8-D3E34FC7B00A} - http://install.wildtangent.com/bgn/partner...nds/install.cab

Close all other windows and browsers, and press the Fix Checked button.

Delete these folders:
C:\Program Files\PWRSMND1\ <-- this folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\MAGSME~1\ <-- this folder, foldername strats with MAGSME

With all windows and browsers closed.
Clean out temporary and Temporary Internet Files.
A. Open System Security Suite.
B. In the Items to Clear tab thick:
- Internet Explorer (left pane): Cookies & Temporary files
- My Computer (right pane): Temporary files & Recycle Bin
Press the Clear Selected Items button.
Close the program.

REBOOT normally.

Run HijackThis! again and post a new log please.
Everyday is virus day. Do you know where your recovery CDs are ?
Did you create them yet ?

Lately i've been having explorer.exe closing on me. It shut down for a couple of seconds and runs itself again but all my programs are shut down. Do you know what could be the problem?

No, your log looks clean.

Please download and run Silent Runners.vbs: http://www.silentrunners.org/

If you have a script blocking program you will get a warning asking if you want to allow Silent Runners.vbs to run. Allow the script to run.

Post the log please and a new hijackthis log.

Download Find It NT-2K-XP.zip.

Unzip the contents of Find It NT-2K-XP.zip to a folder, for example c:\findit

Navigate to the c:\findit folder and double-click on find.bat.
A command prompt will open and it will search your computer for malicious files. Let it finish. It could take 5 - 10 minutes.

Once it has finished a Notepad window will pop up with output.txt.
Copy the entire contents of output.txt into your next post.
Everyday is virus day. Do you know where your recovery CDs are ?
Did you create them yet ?

Hi

There is nothing suspect in your logs.

You can delete these two files (parts of nCase parasite):
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msbb.log <-- this file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msbbau.dat <-- this file

body dent.exe

This is a part of Lop.com adware, but I don't see an active process. Did you delete the file ?

My final problem is "Start Now Navigation Helper." Everytime I try to uninstall it in control panels It says "major error" and that I'm missing a .dll file to uninstall it. I can't find it in search either.

You deleted some files and you cannot uninstall the software. The entry in Add\Remove Programs could be harmless.

Your logs look clean. Do you still have problems ?

Hi

Everything is fine, but I can't seem to find the 2 files you suggested I delete. I tried to look it up in Search and I tried to find it manually, but I had no luck.
Do you know how I can find them?
