csrss.exe is an essential process for your system to run. It's also a trojan virus - depending upon it's location.

Have you removed any viruses recently? Please run this free, online scan to double check your system: http://safety.live.com

Perhaps it would help if I got XP sp2.....I am running sp1 and safety.live.com does not have sp1 scan downloads - only sp2. Believe me I would get XP sp2 if I could, but I can't. LOL this is partially starting a new topic. IE does not work, and I need it for the sp2 for the IE 7 update (I am running IE 6). So I need IE for sp2 update. but I need sp2 for IE update. It's crazy, right?....anyway I have Spybot-SD Resident and McAfee both running all the time...I don't think it's a trojan.

I have seen viruses recently that will keep McAfee running - and will report bogus results. Additionally, I suspect that there have been some major changes with McAfee over the last several months - and the program has been causing lot's of problems for us at work.

What I'm saying is that you should double check your programs - even the best of them can have undiscovered exploits.

Next, if you don't have SP2, then you need to get it some way. One of the csrss.exe exploits was (I believe) fixed by SP2. But SP2 won't install on an infected system, nor will it behave well if you haven't updated your drivers to SP2 compatibility.

Here's a couple of links on SP2 prep:
