The GeForce that you mentioned is rated better that the ATI Card.

Before you get the geforce or ati card, check your power supply output.

most of the ge force cards that I have seen require a 400 watt or better power supply to function correctly.

most ATI cards that i have seen require a 350 or better power supply.

i have a 7600gs and i'll say this; it's not a bad card. by any means. but it's definitely not the best you can do. depending on how much you want to spend there may be a better card for your money.

what's your price range?

If you want a good midrange card. I'd suggest the EVGA 7900GS. It's Nvidia's new midrange card. It's fairly cheap and pretty powerful. Buy EVGA because their warranty covers overclocking, which is a huge plus.

I prefer the 7600 GT (I've got one in my system) over the 7600 GS - mainly due to the clock speed. Link to a comparison: http://techreport.com/reviews/2006q2/gefor...0s/index.x?pg=1

the 7600gt is ~190 at compusa. this may be out of your price range, but it's worth it. the higher memory/core clocks help a lot.

I had a friend pick up a 7900 at best buy for ~$150. Not sure if it was a special sale or something. It's a really good card and probably the one I would get (if I didn't have agp) because of its great price to performance ratio. Newegg has some great deals too.

Have you priced power supplies for the Dell? They use a proprietary model that is quite expensive.

USAMA,

actually all of the new dells that I have seen use standard ATX 2.0X power supplies now (with strange watt ratings).

I have replaced several power supplies on the new dells (less than 2 years old) with ANTEC units,

and the new units work perfectly. If you order a replacement from Dell, they will still try to pull your brains out through your nose.

They actually have a limited-time offer of an XFX 7600GT.
It has a 1.6 ghz clock thing. Amazing for a 7600.

Sorry for the double post.
But.. what the heck? You're comparing pci-e x16 to agp? Which do you have? You can't have both kinds in the same system.

We don't see that many new Dells in my shop - most are older with lot's of problems. Recently one of our techs replaced a Dell PSU with an Antec by using a pair of aircraft tin snips to modify (cut) the backplate so that the Antec would fit.

FWIW - I've got a PCIe 7600 GT (from eVGA) and it works great. Haven't tried any games with it (and I'm running it in Vista) - but haven't had a problem yet.
