[i was installing SP2 and my system froze, then crashed and burned. I tried to boot thru restore, and it comes up with a stop error code,( im sorry i didnt write it down) , but it says the system wont run because it
cant find component WINSRV. As you surmise, Im not real familiar with windows, but I am not afraid to try
anything , and everything, so if anybody can point me in the right direction as far as what WINSRV is and how I go about putting it back into the system? or what the hell is my next step? THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Basically there are 2 things that you must do before installing SP2:

1) Scan for viruses and spyware. If any are found, they must be removed. Here's a free online scan that'll double check your results: http:/safety.live.com/

2) Update all of your drivers that are not SP2 capable. You can do this from the web page of the computer manufacturer.

The error code is STOP, coooo135 this application failed because winsrv is not found (unable to locate component) I hope this helps, I cant boot up to check for viruses, but it was fine before I deleted it, Thanks Again!!!!!

The easiest thing would be to do a repair install of XP: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
