Hello,

I'm having a problem fixing my laptop. The svchost.exe is consuming all my CPU usage and if I let it continue, it will consume all my memory and crash Windows. I have done some removal of malware, spyware, and viruses and show up clean in Norton AntiVirus, Prevx (this was the only program to find something which I have deleted already), Adaware, BHODaemon, Bazooka, and Stinger. Other symptoms include having my Norton AntiVirus auto protect turned off when the pc starts up, internet activity when not doing anything (did a IP sniff and found that it is going to 207.138.126.230, but can't seem to decipher what it is trying to send), internet working sluggish to not working at all, and my windows themes temporarily going to Windows Classic but does go back to XP style on its own.

The last thing I have removed was the msasvc service from the registry setting but still having problems. One thing I couldn't delete in the registry setting though was LEGACY_MSASVC from enum folder :
HKLM/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Enum/Root/LEGACY_MSASVC
HKLM/SYSTEM/ControlSet003/Enum/Root/LEGACY_MSASVC
HKLM/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Enum/Root/LEGACY_MSASVC
Keeps telling me "Cannot delete LEGACY_MSASVC: Error while deleting key

Below is the Hijack This logs as close to start up as possible with svchost.exe still running at max:

Download http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.
Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
=======================

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and save that file to your desktop. Note: This is NOT the Anti Virus from AVG.

When the trial period expires it becomes feature-limited freeware but is still worth keeping as a good on-demand scanner.
1. Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double click it to launch the set up program.
2. Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
3. On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
o Next select the "Start Update" button. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
4. Once the update has completed, select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
5. Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
6. Under "Reports"
o Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
o Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do Not run a scan just yet, we will run it in safe mode.
1. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:
2. Launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the icon on your desktop.
3. Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
4. AVG will now begin the scanning process. Please be patient as this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete, do the following:
5. If you have any infections you will be prompted. Then select "Apply all actions."
6. Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
7. Select the "Save report as" button in the lower lef- hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file. This is important).
8. Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.
Post the log from AVG and a new HiJack log

1. Download gmer from http://www.gmer.net
2. Save it somewhere safe & unzip it to desktop
3. Double click the gmer.exe to run it and select the rootkit tab, press scan
4. When it has finished, right-click the entry highlighted in red - [System] pe386
5. Select 'Delete the service' & then reboot your machine.

Thanks for all the help so far but still a no go. svchost.exe is still taking up all resources and Norton Antivirus auto protect is disabled upon system startup even though preferences have this to be enabled. Below are the Hijack this logs at start-up:

Any thing else I can do here? AVG Anti-Spyware is clean, SDFix is clean, and gmer has been run.

Here are the SDFix.exe logs after running gmer:

Lets do this

Please download: http://www.uploads.ejvindh.net/rustbfix.exe and save it to your desktop.

Double click on rustbfix.exe to run the tool. If a Rustock.b-infection is found, you will shortly be asked to reboot the computer. The reboot will probably take quite a while, and perhaps 2 reboots will be needed. But this will happen automatically. After the reboot 2 logfiles will open (%root%\avenger.txt & %root%\rustbfix\pelog.txt). Post the content of those logs along with a new HijackThis log from normal mode.

Thanks for all the help. The rustbfix.exe didn't find anything but I decided to just reinstall Norton and that seems to have corrected the auto protect disabled. The svchost.exe on one process still seems to be high but I don't think it belongs to anything malicious because looking at tasklist /svc, the svchost belongs to a legit service of mine. So probably I just need to reinstall that application. I definitely appreciate your help and your whole service. You can consider this closed.

Thanks
