FIRST OFF, I'M EXTREMELY NEW TO HOW A COMPUTER WORKS. I've been using them my whole life, but never really explored how they operated.

I've had my computer for a few years, and never had any problems. About a week ago I deleted a game and after restarting, my computer wouldn't go to the desktop. It stopped during its loading stage and gave a reason why.(can't remember it)

My friend came over with a copy of a windows XP reboot cd. After rebooting, my computer works like new, but I have no sound.
When i go to the volume control, it tells me there are no mixers installed.

Can anyone help me out? I'm sure theres a simple explanation, but like I said, I'm new.

B-T-W What other parts of my computer would/should be having the same problem my sound is?

Thanks for your time and help

CliffPriest welcome to BC. Let us first see what you have on board in terms of hardware.(Motherboard/Soundcard/Videocard) Do you have a brand computer Dell?/HP?If you can not figure it out yourself if you ceck my signature there is a post for all sorts of Freeware. You have to look for Everest or Belarc adviser. Install one of them and look for the three items in the report.

It depends on what's not working. Go to Start...Run...and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Let us know if there are any red x's or yellow !'s there.

Now you'll need to update the motherboard chipset drivers from that page since the SMB and USB aren't working correctly. I think that the one's labeled: " Spring 2004 Original Chipset Driver Collection" are the one's for this purpose.
