and oh...

Ad Aware found the following malware at a scan, but that was before my posted HJT log...

BOOKEDSPACE

obj[41]=File : C:\WINDOWS\system32\rlvknlg.exe
obj[42]=File : C:\WINDOWS\system32\rkupginstaller.exe

but still even after it was quarantined... cpu usage still sometimes rose up to 100% especially when winamp and firefox are open... just an observation.

hope you could help me with the proper diagnosis.

thanks.

Hello again :thumbsup:

You might want to print out these instructions.

Found a pretty nasty infection, lets get rid of it...

Go to Start > Run and type Services.msc then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the below service:

IG

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, under the General tab click the Stop button, then click the drop-down box to change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.

Open HiJackThis, click on None of the above, just start the program. Now, click on the Config button (bottom right), click on Misc Tools, then click on Delete an NT Service. A window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (make sure there are NO spaces before or after the name):

IG

Click OK.

It should pull up information about the service, then ask if you want to reboot. Click YES.

==========

Updating Java:
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )

    It should have next icon next to it: Posted Image
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
==========

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

==========

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

==========

Hello again :thumbsup:

THe following 2 programs are optional removals because the program themselves are not malware, but the items you can download are usually malware.

Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

LimeWire 4.10.9
BitTorrent 5.0.0

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):

C:\Program Files\Limewire
C:\Program Files\BitTorrent

After that, Reboot.

==========

Please run the F-Secure Online Scanner

Note: This Scanner is for Internet Explorer Only!
  • Follow the Instruction Here for installation.
  • Accept the License Agreement.
  • Once the ActiveX installs,Click Full System Scan
  • Once the download completes,the scan will begin automatically.
  • The scan will take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
  • Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
==========

anyway, still had the same problem... my cpu usage frequently spikes up to a 100%. i've just reformated my computer hoping to get fresh new start only to find out my pc is still experiencing the same problem.

this usually happens when i'm running winamp, or windows media player 11 and firefox.

i've tried using different versions of winamp, either version 5.24 or version 5.32 to test it out but either of which still consumes a lot of cpu (way above 60 plus). in addition, i am using firefox version 2.0.0.1.

From the task manager, these 2 programs consume a substantial about of cpu, plus some other process also consuming at an average of 2% each - svchost.exe, lsass.exe, csrss.exe, vsmon.exe, zlclient.exe, acs.exe, ACU.exe, avgcc.exe, explorer.exe (10 plus), system.

I usually end the firefox and winamp processes, but cpu usage stays at around the 30-40's level for a few more seconds (consumed by the other processes) before dropping to 0-2%.

I've scanned my computer with AVG, Ad Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, nothing shows up.

What could be the source of this problem?

Worse comes to worse, could this be harware problem? My laptop tends to heat up and i could hear the air from the fans (but it's not tool loud).

For winamp, i installed no plug-ins. Just a single skin, that's all.

For firefox, i only have 1 theme, and 3 add-ons (Web developer, IE tab, Download statusbar. I didn't add any other add-ons yet to test the situation.

I seldom use Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player. But there was one time when i was using Windows Media Player (version 10) and CPU usage rose to 100% with the player eating the most.

Usually, winamp or firefox eats up 50% - 80% at most so i kill these processes in task manager. But then, CPU still levels at 20 - 40% (with no other window or no programs open) for a few more seconds before dropping to 0%. This 20 - 40% is eaten up by taskmgr.exe, explorer.exe, svchost.exe, acs.exe, csrss.exe, lsass.exe, services.exe, system, among the few processes i have noticed. (same as in previous reply)

Somehow this makes me wonder if the problem is really with winamp or firefox, considering the circumstances.

Other info:

Partitioned drive: 20 GB each

Drive C: Used space - 6.61 GB, Free Space - 11.8 GB
Drive D: Used space - 14.3 GB, Free Space - 4.51 GB

i was also able to defragment it.

Here is the HJT log...
