Ok, I sold my friend a computer and it worked fine. He bought a new hard drive and installed Windows.
He can't get internet on it.. So he took a PCI ethernet card and put it in there.
Now it won't start! How can I fix his computer?
His motherboard is a Gigabyte KH9NS AGP socket 754 ddr 400 nforce3

Have you tried the obvious first, like change slots, or use another ethernet card?

Did he install the card while the PC was still powered up? Did he seat the card correctly?

everything is in correctly. We've tried taking the card out and it still hasn't started. We've put it in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd slot.

Have you tried the minimum build to see where it fails?

Remove everything that's plugged into the case except:
-Power cord
-Monitor
-Keyboard

And try it then.

If still nothing, then try removing all the cards inside except for the video card. Try again.

If still nothing, then we'll try even more stuff to remove.

First of all, never sell a computer to a friend or family memeber, second, never sell a computer to a friend or family member.

If this guy is responsible for the damage why are you paying him back?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

He broke the processor and is insisting that you pay him back? If it were me, I'd tell him to....well, this is a family board, so I'll stop there!
