Hi. I'm in the learning stages at a couple other forums, and cleaning up a friend's PC for "practice". Well, it's a lot more than I bargained for! Zlob, Virusbursters, WinAntivirus, PestTrap, pop-ups all over, plus a ton of stuff removed with AdAware.....

Anyway, I found a few things that are related to others (isamonitor.exe messages on shutdown), but one of his main complaints is a nasty splash screen on startup/shutdown. I was wondering if that's usually associated with a certain infection.

Also, something I noticed was a couple nasty files in his MyDownloads folder that I deleted came back. Is Killbox ever used for files in that location?

TIA,
Melissa

If you would like you can use these instructions for removing virusbursters:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/70074/how-to-remove-virusburster-or-virusbursters-removal-instructions/

This program is also great at removing malware:
http://www.superantispyware.com/
Use superantispyware in safe mode for best results.

After using the above and you still have problems, follow the advice in the first post.

Buddy,
The Smitfraud fix instructions is what I used, and I will check out superanti-spyware.

Fozzie,
I will be posting a HJT log. Due to a limited amount of time (and the computer isn't at my house), I was trying to do as much as possible when I can.

Smitfraud fix was last updated on Dec 4 2006, 12:37 PM. If you ran the program before that time then I would suggest you rerun it. It is also necessary that you run the super antispyware, too.

I think a lot of it is gone now, but his computer is still a little slow. I am posting a HJT log in the other forum now...
