Thank you in advance for the help on this topic. I have performed all the recommended scans and run checks on all hard drives on my system. I have uninstalled Avast virus protection and replaced with PC-cillin, however I left Panda 1 month trial on as it's the last feature I installed. Almost all the checks discovered and resolved infections and liabilities but I still notice Net-Broadcaster running when I attempt shutdown. I have temporarily disabled system restore. I have just run HijackThis and here is the log:

Thanks you all for looking into this...I have now re-enabled System Restore and run CCleaner. Removed all cookies and everything but still get windows box re: Net-Broadcast...? [the displayed string is incomplete] on shutdown. I often have had to use Task Manager to force close running applications and last night during preparation process I also had to force stop from mains switch. Ah, some of the online scan tools failed to complete. PC-cillin, Panda, Stinger and Ad-Aware have all scanned and removed - logs saved.

I hope this is enough info for now.

Hello,

Sorry for the delay, the forums are very busy.

I have looked at your log and I don't see any signs of malware. It is clean.

I notice you have an ATI video card. Take a look here for a possible cause.

Here's another topic pointing to the same cause, apparently the Control Center is the component responsible rather than the driver itself.

If the problem is not resolved by updating or rolling back your Radeon Catalyst drivers, or disabling the Control Center, I suggest you post a new topic in the Windows XP forum. Be sure to mention that you have already been checked out for malware in the HJT forum.

Good luck,

Dave
