I have a HP Pavilion 6683. When I turn on the PC, the power comes on but there are no beeps and only the blue HP Pavilion welcome screen shows up. When trying to boot from a floppy or bootable A:Drive CD, nothing happens. Also I cleaned out over 80% of the dust in the PC. I read other topics on the same problem with no solution. Also I stripped down the PC to the motherboard and replaced everything with the same things previously in, (ie. jumper cables, HDD, FDD, Master Volume, and everything else). I honestly don't know what to do.

Hi T3HTR33,

If you pull everything but the memory and video card, will it try boot? Strip it down to the bare minimums and work your way back. I would also reset the CMOS settings on the motherboard. There is usually a jumper or push button somewhere that allows the reset.

Try that and we can go from there...

Ok, I just removed the battery for 30+ mins. I read somewhere that this also resets the CMOS settings. Will the BIOS boot up now or is there something else I need to do.

Well I got into the BIOS screen. I updated the date and OS configuration to the right one. I just need to know what I should do to ensure that the BIOS will boot after I plug in the cables for the disks and Master drive.

They should be picked up automatically when you plug in the cables to the mobo. Do like rigel said, and have it at the bare minimums, with just your hdd, video card and a single stick of ram installed, then try to boot. Once you get it going with the bare minimum in it, then you can start to add other things (like another stick of ram, CD/DVD drive etc. etc.) one at a time to rule out any hardware issues.

If your HP has a partition on it with a copy of XP (or whatever OS you're running) on it, then you'll need to have your hdd installed (plugged in) to get it to boot into Windows.

I'm sure that rigel will have more help too!
