When I installed XP I was asked for a username. It’s the one which appears under “Documents and Settings”. I made a spelling mistake and now that everything is installed, I would like to apply the correction.

Is it okay to apply the correction in all hits I get in the Registry (after a search with Resplendent Registrar, for example) or will things backfire in this case?

You should just fix it in the Users section of the control pannel, usually the folders will correct themselves

No, changing the values in the registry won't necessarily get everything - not all information about your account is stored as text - there are SID's and CLSID's that are in hex that have this info also.

The simplest way is to go into User Accounts and change the name. This'll leave the account with the original name in Documents and Settings (it'll sort of "overlay" that name) - but will show the new name whenever you logon.

Another option is to create another profile with the correct information - then transfer the information from the old account. Once the new account is working correctly, you can delete the old one. Here's a link: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811151
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

I couldn't work on this item after all. I ran into more important problems such as not being able to boot into Safe Mode.

I'll report back around mid-January.
