Computer Locks Up

My Daughters computer,she bought it home from Uni for me to fix!!, starts, loads windows then locks about 3 min. the screen gets lines and there is a crackling,buzzing noise,press reset and it just bleeps until I turn off the power,wait 5 min turn on and it repeats the same problem.

The PSU is the first thing that comes to mind with the sounds you have described, can you hear it better from the rear of the case where the PSU is located? Can you smell burnt electronics? If it's not the PSU is could be a component on the motherboard, have you looked at the motherboard for signs of arcing?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.
