Could someone please advise how I can overcome a CRC file error please? I downloaded a file and tried to open it with Power Archiver. The attempt gave me this error message "There is a CRC error on file C:\Docume~1\D\locals~1\Temp\devicemanager.jpg. There are 2 jpeg files and one Explorer file in the download, the 2nd jpeg message also mentioned a CRC error but was slightly different and the Explorer error also referred to a CRC file error.

Do I have the problem, or does the error relate to a problem in the downloaded file? I have not come across this error before.

Is it possible to correct it?

Many thanks

It sounds like the download is corrupt, or perhaps there is a problem with Power Archiver.

Thanks for the link. I have printed it off for reference and note that one of the suggestions is a defrag. Unfortunately, my laptop hdd has insufficient free space to defrag fully so I will have to re-format and reinstall - O what joy!

The error message referred to my C drive which made me think the problem may have been my computer. Power Archiver has worked fine up to this download so I hope a reinstall will clear up any problems. I will try the download again the reformat and return to the forum with the result.

Many thanks for your help and the link which has been instructive. My earlier reply may not have reached you as my broadband connection was broken as I hit "send"

FWIW - a format and reinstall may not be necessary. Just offload some of the stuff on your hard drive to DVD's or to a USB external drive. This should free up enough space to do a defrag. Generally a minimum of 15% free space is recommended on any hard drive - but this may increase if you have a boat load of very large files.

Also, you may want to run "chkdsk /f /r" (wihtout the quotes) from the Run dialog (Start...Run). It'll say it can't run because the disk is in use, and will ask you if you want to run it on the next reboot. Select "Y", press Enter and then reboot.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
