I have run both Spybot and Adaware both with the most recent updates and I still cannot eliminate this problem. AVG Anti-Virus keeps detecting the virus Trojan horse Downloader.Dyfica.3.E and cannot heal the file or remove it. Any help is much appreciated, Thanks.

Hi

Please uninstall Viewpoint Media Player from Add\Remove Programs.
Removing Viewpoint Media Player may cause the program that bundled it to not function as intended.
About Viewpoint Media Player.

Please print or copy these instructions because you are not able to access the Internet in SafeMode.

Download System Security Suite here:
System Security Suite Download & Tutorial. Unzip it to your desktop.
Install the program. Don't use it yet.

Make sure you are set to show hidden files and folders:
A. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
B. Click the View tab.
C. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
D. Uncheck Hide extensions for known filetypes and Hide protected operating system files.
How to see hidden files in Windows

REBOOT into SafeMode by tapping F8 key repeatedly at bootup: Starting your computer in Safe mode

Run HijackThis!, press Scan, and put a check mark next to all these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mediamotor.exe] C:\WINDOWS\mmups.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [715EXYK.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\715EXYK.EXE /k
O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [715EXYK.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\715EXYK.EXE /k

Close all other windows and browsers, and press the Fix Checked button.

Search for these files and delete them if found:
C:\WINDOWS\mmups.exe <-- this file
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\715EXYK.EXE <-- this file

With all windows and browsers closed.
Clean out temporary and Temporary Internet Files.
A. Open System Security Suite.
B. In the Items to Clear tab thick:
- Internet Explorer (left pane): Cookies & Temporary files
- My Computer (right pane): Temporary files & Recycle Bin
Press the Clear Selected Items button.
Close the program.

REBOOT normally.

Perform a full scan here: Trendmicro, check AutoClean and let him remove anything he finds.

Please check this file:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\4PQB.EXE <-- this file

here: Kaspersky Online Virus Scanner

and here:

Please report back.

Run HijackThis! again and post a new log please.

Edited by cryo, 26 December 2004 - 05:45 PM.

Everyday is virus day. Do you know where your recovery CDs are ?
Did you create them yet ?

HELP-
I followed your directions exactly, uninstalling viewpoint, changing the hidden files options, rebooting in safe mode, running hijack and fixing the specified items, and then running security suite. When i went to reboot it says that it has a registry/configuration error and i should run SCANREG to correct the problem, and then I get the following message:

The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\IFSHLP.SYS
WININIT.EXE: missing/unable to load
Press any key to continue. . .

then it says

The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD
Type the name of the Windows loader (e.g., C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD)

and am prompted to input a file.

What should I do now?
