I am new to this but hope someone can advise me how to handle a message 'CFSServ.exe has encountered a problem' on startup.

Welcome to BC!
If you have a Toshiba computer, CFSServ. seems to be a programme that searches for wireless devices. This can be either terminated, or deleted from your startup list. See the BC Startup List (tab at the top of the page) for more details.
