hey all, i went on a beach trip and turned off the surge protector that my computer was plugged into. i forgot that the surge protector was off and i hit the power button on my computer, then i realized the surge protector was off. so i turned on the protector and heard a sizzle. I turned on my computer and it sounded like it was booting up , but then i heard another sizzle and then a pop and it cut off. I tried to turn it back on but no luck. Can someone tell me what happened to my computer and if it can be fixed, also, do you think that any of my files are still there or are they gone. thanks much!

Maybe you fried your surge protector?
Did you try plugging the pc into another outlet ?

It may sound simplistic ... but you never know.
Where ever you go.................. There you are

Open the case, let it air out a bit, then start sniffing. Is there a burnt smell, and if so, where is it coming from? If you're unsure of the components, try describing us for it, and we'll post back with some ideas.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

Your files are almost certainly still there. You should be able to access them by connecting the hard disk to another PC as slave to its master disk. Your files will mostly be in the Documents and Settings folder.

Best of luck. Need any more help, please contact me. It could be something as simple as a fuse blowing?

Mike
