BS"D

Hi There,

One of my computers has been acting really strange!! It's a PII- 400MHz Machine with about 328 MB of RAM installed at the moment, and running Windows 2000 SP4 on a SCSI hard drive that is close to full capacity.

I always think of this machine as being very stable, until I saw strange behaviour. The Trend Micro Internet Security reports that it is sending information outbound (uploading) more than it is downloading. I also received a warning from Trend Micro that it had a spyware program running, which failed to get clean.

I ran HiJackThis, in Safe Mode with Command Prompt and go the following report:

Hmmm.... I can see why. You have a lot of stuff going on in there that probably shouldn't be.

Please run SpyBot and Adaware .
Download the latest versions here:
* Adaware
* Spybot
Install and run, one at a time. Fix everything they find.

--------------------

Please use one/both of these free online scans:

*PandaSoft
*TrendMicro

--------------------

Also, give A-Squared a try.

--------------------

Reboot and post a new log when you have finished.

I look forward to hearing from you guys when you have a chance so that I can fix it. In return, I am willing to share my knowledge (in other areas) with you guys.

Thanks again in advance!!

My apologies..I missed this until just now.

Put a checkmark next to the following in HijackThis. Make sure all other windows and browsers are closed before clicking on “Fix Checked”

Go to add/remove in your control panel and remove RedSwoosh.

***********************************************************************

Boot into SAFE MODE by tapping the f8 key during boot up.

Delete the following:
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\eqgq.exe <--file
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\hvbve.exe <--file
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\feqwfs.exe <--file
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\vbdd.exe <--file

Disable, then re-enable your system restore, and create a new restore point.
Working with system restore

***********************************************************************

Reboot, and rerun the Panda and TrendMicro scans listed above, as you still have some nastiness in there.

***********************************************************************

Post a new log when you are done. It should start working much better now. You have some apps on there witht their own built in mail servers, and I'm guessing they are what is causing the large amount of outbound traffic you are seeing.

BS"D

Thanks for your help and patience; sorry it took me so long to repost.

Please advise with the new log, after I cleaned the above-mentioned items with HJT, as advised by Groovicus. BTW, a few items seem to have been taken care of by Spybot.

Please let me know what looks suspicious. Please note the blue processes as there are a few of the same process and the System32 directory is referred to as System32 and system32. (Note the upper/lowercase - I am not sure if this means anything.)

Thanks in advance!
