Hello and welcome to BC

Sorry for the delayed response. I cannot see anything malware related in your log. I would suggest that you click here and see if the recommendations there would help you.

First of all HijackThis needs to run from a folder of its own to function properly. Click on an empty space on your desktop. Go to New>Folder to create a new folder. Name the new Folder "HijackThis". Drag and drop HijackThis.exe into the new folder.

=====================================

Scan with HijackThis and put a checkmark against the following entries.

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u

Close all browsers/applications/windows/mail, etc. and click on "fix checked". Exit HijackThis.

====================================

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9.
  • Scroll down to where it says " Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9
The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the icon next to it.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
=====================================

Now run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  • Standard
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
  • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
  • Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information from Kapersky in your next post and a fresh HijackThis log please.

Forgot to include this. You do have the O6 lines indicating some restriction on the IE/Control Panel access rights. Unless that is intentional by an administrator or program like Spybot or StartPage Guard , you can check these lines and Fix them in HJT, if you wish.

My problem has been unsually slow computer performance and spikes of 100% CPU usage when i bring up task manager, i think its explorer.exe but how should i know. I skimmed over the virus scan kasper did and i see ALOT of it had to do with my brothers song files, he moved out of the house recently but i'm wondering if the fact he was using this computer alot had anything to due with infectino. I greatly appreciate the help your service is providing, here's the two logs.

You didn't seem to have any infection that would infect the other computers in the system, but both Ccleaner and AVG-AS are good tools to clean and scan the system. So, no harm if you use them, in fact it's preferable.

the comcast guy said "the network card was disabled" maybe it was the ccleaner?

I don't think so. Ccleaner does not interfere with the network card.

anyway i'm abt to run AVG and kasper now, so we'll see

. Will be waiting for them. Remember to update AVG- AS before you reboot into Safe Mode to scan with it.

Hi,

The logs are looking good. HijackThis cannot see everything. That's why we want other scans like AVG-AS and Kaspersky. Hang in there, we are almost done. How is the computer running now?

Sorry, that AVG scan took about 3 hours,

Did you clean out the Norton Protected Recycle Bin and the Norton Quarantine? Did you run the Ccleaner prior to scanning? Unless you have a lot on the disk, it shouldn't take that long.

The following entries are not malware but simply clutter. You can have them fixed with the HijackThis like you did before, but you must first disable the AVG - AS guard so that it will not interfere with the fix. To disable it:
Open AVG Anti Spyware.
Under 'Status',click on "change status" to make it 'inactive'. Once your log is clean you can re-enable it.
