I had been having problems with my computer so i used the "back in time" feature on the computer, after which i cant view videos or any flash images. All i get is a blank box with a smaller box in the upper left hand corner with a triangle, circle, and square inside it. i have windows media player, realplayer, and flash player. i even downloaded a codec file and with no progress. i check my ...."diagtx" files....right? and they said no problems found. so i tried lowering my video acceleration to zero on my windows media player and still nothing

When you say "back in time" feature" do you mean 'System Restore"?

In any case it sounds like something went wrong with Windows Media Player or your 'flash player'. Personally I would uninstall the software your having problems with and then reinstall.

Also think about using Real Alternative an free player that strangely enough is an alternative to 'RealPlayer'!! Also look out for Quicktime Alternative
If all else fails, hit the reset button.

Yeah, my media players are updated, and there really isnt an error message just where ever there are videos or flash images it has a blank box, and in the upper left hand corner is the typical box with a square, circle and a triangle. i cant view places like yikers.com. youtube.com and certain features in myspace i cant see either. \

it was all working fine before i did the system restore, but i restarted into safemode and did SOMETHING, i have know idea what, but when i restarted into regular mode, it worked, until i adjusted my firewall and it stopped working. i thought that might be the reason but it wouldnt work even after i completely disabled it, i tried uninstalling and reinstalling my firewall and that didnt work, i went into the application rules on my firewall and gave my media player full access. i have defender pro 5 in 1 2007. i tried going into safe mode to reset my security setting and it wouldnt let me access it in safe mode.

Some other questions :

Which browser do you use?

Can you indicate what you can see in my space and what you can't see. ( pref. file types)

You said you downloaded "a codec " which one?

On myspace, i'm not sure the file types but i cant see the "music box" on the profile, nor hear the music, and i have a slide show on there from slide.com.

I use the new internet explorer 7

I'm sorry, apparently it was a codec defiler pac which included:

Haali Media filter: Supports the Matroska, MP4, and OGM A/V container formats.
VSFilter: Supports a wide variety of subtitle formats.
DivX ;-) Audio: Just in case.
AC3 XForm filter: Makes life a little easier for folks with external Dolby Digital decoders.
HDTVPump: Support for HD/ATSC transport st

Why did you use System Restore, what problems were you having?
Also click Start> right click my computer
click Properties>Click hardware Tab
click Device Manager
Expand (+) each of the devices to see if any conflicts appear (Yellow triangles)

because some numb nuts another site told me to because i had the winavirus adaware and nothing i had would get rid of it, i tried everything they told me to on the internet and nothing got rid of it, only gave me more adaware. so they told me to do a system restore and that it should take care of it.

Ok let's try to straighten a few things out.
it appears you've got malware and a possible sound issue.
What is your Operating System.
What antivirus and spyware programs do you have installed
Did you try them in safe mode, what did they find
What firewall are you using
The original box, triangle, square problem sounds like a sound issue
What is your sound devive
Were ther any conflicts in the Device manager
How do I get help? Who is helping me?For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear....Become a BleepingComputer fan: Facebook

Now i was told that the logs look clean. but that was ran a few days ago, but the problem has been going on for a month now so if it is malware it would be on this log i'm sure.

There werent any problems on the devise manager.
