Yep good ole MacAfee. Welcome to Bleeping Computer, RowSkiingtennisgal.
Can you boot to Safe Mode (Using F8 at start up)?

Thank you for your reply. I can occasionally start windows in Safe Mode. When I can do so, what should I do after that?

Ackland speaks truly.
If you want to screw your computer up install Norton or McAfee!
That will slow it down to a crawl!

Uninstall all McAfee and Norton products in Safe Mode.
Download and run the removal tools.
Add remove programs is not enough.
In the beginning there was the command line.

If you go to a different antivirus try and download it first. I use AVG free, but Avast, BitDefendr, and Antivir all may excellent freeware antivirus programs. None of them load your system to the point it is dragged down.

Freeware alternatives
