Hi Again Guys,

I have recently got smitfraud i think i may have finally beaten it but i how have a couple issues.

when i restart my comp after about 5 mins explorer.exe and cli.exe goto 100% cpu usage in my taskmgr.

if i kill the processes then restart explorer.exe it will work fine for about 10 more mins then explorer.exe goes back to 100% cpu usage.

if i leave my taskmgr.exe open for more then say 10min it does the same thing.

another problem is with the new i.e 7 the i.e6 works fine, but as soon as i install i.e7 and run it it will crash every single time.

this is only started happening over the last few days when i got smitfraud.
so if you could take a look at my log and offer some tips would be much apprieciated.

Regards
Robin

Hi,

Your system is still infected though which is not related with smitfraud...

First of all, you didn't unzip/extract hijackthis.. and it's still in the tempfolder.
So I strongly advise to unzip/extract hijackthis.
Read here how to unzip/extract properly:
http://metallica.geekstogo.com/xpcompressedexplanation.html
Create a permanent folder and move hijackthis.exe into it. The reason is because hijackthis creates backups and when it's in your temp-folder it can be accidentally deleted.
How do you make a permanent folder:

Click My Computer, then G:\ and then on Program Files.
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have C:\Program Files\HijackThis. Put your HijackThis.exe there.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your G:\.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • In case it says that nothing was found, Right click the list box (white box) in the main VundoFix window.
  • Select Add More Files? from the menu that comes up. This will open a new VundoFix window.
  • In the Window: copy and paste next in the first field: G:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\tuvtqon.dll
  • Click the Add Files button.
  • Click the "Close Window" button.
  • Click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {05803C02-720F-00B7-33F3-063693990E3B} - G:\WINDOWS\system32\ixhggre.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6BFDDFA0-E703-0041-C38C-087D349021B7} - G:\WINDOWS\system32\bymkql.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CFE9E8A8-38C0-4EF8-AEC2-5035EFE81030} - G:\WINDOWS\system32\tuvtqon.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: tuvtqon - G:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\tuvtqon.dll

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Reboot and after reboot, Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

And I see a clean log again.

Just perform another scan with an updated AVG to get rid of the leftovers if present.

Glad I could help. :flowers:

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.
How to use SpywareBlaster

* Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
* Don't click on links inside popups.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. Because a lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
