Two days ago I started receiving popup messages from McAfee indicating that a worm had apparently infected my machine and was attempting to send out mass emails. After some investigation I discovered the following processes that seemed to be related to this problem: adirss.exe and wservice.exe. I found a post on this forum related to these two files, so I followed some of the initial cleanup steps suggested in that post. These steps included the following.

Ran Adaware multiple times until no more malware was found.

Ran Spybot Search and Destroy

Opened Task Manager and killed adirss.exe and wservice.exe.

Ran eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner. Thousands of infected files were found. I saved off the list of infected/cleaned files and can post it if it would be helpful.

Ran HijackThis and fixed the following items:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [adir] C:\WINDOWS\system32\adirss.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdateService] C:\WINDOWS\system32\wservice.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [UpdateService] C:\WINDOWS\system32\wservice.exe

Downloaded and ran Dr. Web's Cureit. Again thousands of infected files were found. Most of them had names consisting of 8 apparently random characters with a .t extension (xxxxxxxx.t). When the scan finished I clicked on the Select All button. The operation ran for a long time (over 20 minutes) with CPU pegged at 100%. I opened Task Manager and ended the process. I then reran Dr. Web's Cureit and ran another scan. This time I only found the following items.

I rebooted the machine, however when Windows starts my desktop/taskbar does not display. I only see my wallpaper and windows explorer. I am able to run application from windows explorer including Internet Explorer, but I don't know how to get back to my desktop. Also I don't know what additional steps I should take to ensure that my system is clean.

Here is the latest HijackThis log:
