So I was on vacation and when I got back my roommate let me know that he got a virus from myspace *woot*

I now have Virus Bursters on my system.

I have done alot of things to try and fix this problem.
I tried all suggestions at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/63896/how-to-remove-virusburst-removal-instructions/
The only problem is that when I boot into safe mode as soon as it starts loading windows it reboots the computer.
besides running the programs on the link I have also ran Mcafee Stinger, Spybot, and Adaware.

Here is my hijackthis log

Hello durakus,

I am SifuMike and I will be helping you.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

I really appriciate your reply but as I mentioned above when I boot into safe mode it begins loading windows and then just reboots the computer. I have tried it a few times now and every time when windows is almost loaded it reboots the pc.

Hello durakus,

Are you booting into Safe Mode like this?
tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key.

If that does not work, then go to this site: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-start-windows-in-safe-mode/ and try booting an alternate way.

If it still does not work, then you probably have a damaged system file and will need to run Microsoft's System File Checker program. It may ask you to install your Windows Install CD, so have it ready.

Scannow Tutorial
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

Go to Start, then Run, type sfc /scannow in the run box and press enter.

Note: There is a space between sfc and the forward slash. Windows will ask you for your Windows Install CD so put it in...don't worry if the XP setup screen appears, this is
not a part of sfc /scannow, your autorun utility in Windows is starting it. Simply
minimize the screen and allow sfc to continue.

ok I tried the other ways to go into safe mode and I still have the same result it just reboots after i select myself as the user and it begins to boot.
I tried the sfc /scannow thing and nothing ever showed up on the screen. It was thinking and just to test it I ejected the cd and it asked for it again...but nothing ever showed up so I had no idea if it was doing anything. Any other suggestions? the worst part is right before i left I spent about 20 hours reformating and reinstalling all my stuff.

I afraid this goes not look good. If sfc /scannow does not solve it, then you have a major problem.

Nothing will show up on the screen when it runs, but you should have heard the hard drive working.
It should check all the system files, and replace the bad ones with those in you Windows cache folder. If the files are not found in the Windows cache folder, then it will ask you to insert the Windows Install CD.
Did you let it run at least 15-20 minutes?

Let's try a long shot. Hope it works. :flowers:

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best). Do not run it yet!

CCleaner Tutorial

*******************************************

In Normal Mode, select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VirusBursters] C:\Program Files\VirusBursters\virusbursters.exe /h

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following folder in bold
C:\Program Files\VirusBursters\ <==folder
*******************************************

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Let's empty the temp files:

Run CCleaner.

1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbarfree Basic version instead of the Standard Build.

2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies.
Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
Clean all entries in the "System" section.
Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.

If it asks you to reboot at the end, click NO.

CCleaner should be run with the above settings for each User Account!

*******************************************

Reboot.
Post a new Hijackthis log, and try to boot to the Safe Mode. Let me know what happens.

Hi durakus,

Sorry to hear that you could not get sfc /scannow to run. I hope reformatting and reloading goes smoothly.

Please read and follow Groovicus' Guide to Simple PC Security to help keep yourself from becoming infected again, as well as
