I have 2 folders on my C: drive called cmdcons and cmdcons(2). #1 has 776MB, 179 files, and 1 folder. #2 has 369MB, 108 files, and 0 folders. #1 is hidden, and #2 is not. Both created Saturday August 27, 2005. By whom or what I do not know. I noticed #1 when I started showing hidden files. I understand cmdcons has something to do with the Recovery Console. The files in #2 has the same files as #1, but there are not as many as #1. Will the fact that there are 2 cmdcons folders cause a problem with the Recovery Console. Should I delete #2, just in case it could cause a problem.

Here's an article about it (Windows 2000 is very similar to XP in this respect): http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/233979

From what little I read, there should be no problem with deleting the extra copy. But, to be safe, I'd suggest renaming it and then leaving it for a while to be sure that it won't cause problems - then you can delete it at your leisure once you're sure it won't hurt.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

I checked the boot.ini, and only cmdcons is listed, so I suppose I do not need cmdcons(2). I will rename cmdcons(2) to Cmdcons(2)(1) and see what happens. I have never used Recovery Console, so I do not know if I will ever know what will happen. Any way, Thanks for your help.
