I am running win xp. I've been through this computer a couple of times and have asked for advise on other sites, nothing seems to help. Seems as .exe files are not loading. It will download, and disappear, never show up in my documents or where I try and load the file. I can update most programs and system seems to run ok, most of the time anyway. But anytime I try an .exe file download it wipes out. I've turned firewalls off, anti-virus protectors, etc....don't know what else to try.

Have you searched your hard drive for the .exe files that you've downloaded?

Are these updates for programs that you already have on your computer? If so, have you checked to see if they've updated themselves and just didn't tell you?

Could you have accidentally clicked on the "Run" button instead of the "Save" button while downloading these files?

This is not a one time problem. If I hit run it will download and disappear, if I hit save it will do the same, no matter where I save the file. I tried to save the file to an external hard drive and it did the same thing. I can't even update my MS defender file, for it is a .exe file and will go so far and just disappear, never goes into the install part.

What security software are you using? It's possible that it has been instructed not to allow .exe files - and that's why their not downloading.
