alright... so... normally i wouldn't trouble anyone over things like this. i've successfully cleaned my system before, but i'm seriously stumped.

i've got somethin in my computer that i don't want there. i've used spybot, adaware, ewido, and avg. they all find things, and they'll clean up the problems they find, but then if i get online, i will start getting pop ups again. mostly either search engine things or stuff that says "you need to download OUR program to get rid of your problem". then, of course, when i scan my computer with my programs again, they all find stuff that needs to be deleted.

i read a bunch of sites and forums and figured i needed hijackthis, ccleaner, smitfraud, restorealldisplaytabs. so i got them. i followed instructions on how to use them, read advice on forums, and have tried a few things over the past couple days, but nothing has worked.

Hey smokingguns

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the following instructions.

Firewall:

Please download one of these free firewalls and install it, either ZoneAlarm or OutPost

Rename Hijackthis:

1. Locate the program Hijackthis.
2. Select the file, right-click and select Rename.
3. Please change the name to: jamielaw
4. Then please could you post a new Hijackthis log.

Vundo Fix:

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt in your next reply.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

ComboFix:

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running! That may cause it to stall.


Please can you include the following logs in your next reply - they may need separate posts to stop them getting cut off:
