Hi bcinc777,

Welcome to BleepingComputer Forums and thanks again for your patience.

Your log shows some very dangerous Trojans are residing on your PC like Troj/DwnLdr-FTB and W32/Rbot-AFL!

These worms have backdoor functionalities and process commands on the local machine giving remote users virtual control over the infected system.
It is possible that the remote attacker has added multiple backdoors and/or accounts or even rooted the computer.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or it if it contains any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Unfortunately I see no firewall and AntiVirus in your runing processes which probably means that you have none. I urge you to install one of each since it's your first defense against malware.

> Firewall: there are several good but for free programmes available like:

Sygate
Kerio
Zone alarm

For a tutorial on Firewalls click: Understanding and Using Firewalls!

> AntiVirus: see this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs: Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources!

Though the Trojans have been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS.

Should you decide not to follow that advice, we will of course do our best to clean the computer of any infections that we can see but, as I already stated, we can in no way guarantee it to be trustworthy.

If you have any questions before to come to a final decision, please feel free to ask.

Should you choose not to reformat, please follow my instructions below!

1. Please download SmitfraudFix
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

2. Download this file - combofix.exe
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Please post the Combofix report along with the Smitfraud report and a new HIjackThis log.

Hi bcinc777,

Some quick questions/remarks.

good catch on the firewall i tried to turn it back on but it gave me a error. looks like i will be reformatting

Are you referring to Windows firewall? What error did it give?

ok i want to reformat but no a drive. is there a disk for the cd drive out there

You mean to say that you have no genuine windows cd? Are you using a legitimate version of windows?

Visit the following site for more information on when and how to reformat!

Finally you didn't post a fresh HijackThis log.

Let me know whether or not you want me to continue; if so post the HijackThis log please.

Hi bcinc777,

To begin with I have a question: did you reset the date from your computer just before running HijackThis?

i also downloaded zone alarm.

Maybe you did but then you didn't install and run it since I don't see one in your running processes; the same goes for an AntiVirus. As I said before this is you first line of defense; surfing the internet without them is very dangerous as, unfortunately, is demonstrated on your computer.

i do have a genuine windows cd. i do not have a floppy drive. how do i reformat with the cd?

Put it in the CD-drive and follow the instructions given at the recommended site in my previous post.

the error on the windows firewall is:
due to unidentified problem, windows can not display firewall settings

This probably has to do with the way your computer is infected. Let's clean that up first and then solve the firewall problem.

1. You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

2. Go to Start > Run
Type:regedit
Click OK.
  • On the leftside, click to highlight My Computer at the top.
  • Go up to "File > Export"
    • Make sure in that window there is a tick next to "All" under Export Branch.
Leave the "Save As Type" as "Registration Files".
      Under "Filename" put backup
  • Choose to save it to C:\ or somewhere else safe so that you will remember where you put it (don't put it on the desktop!)
  • Click save and then go to File > Exit.
This is so the registry can be restored to this point if we need it. It may take a minute. Just let it go until it's done.

3. Open Notepad and copy and paste the following text in the quotebox into it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

Save the file to the desktop as fix.reg and make sure the "Save as Type" field says "All Files". Then please go to the desktop and double-click on fix.reg, and click Yes to merge it with the registry.

4. Download KillBox here and unzip the folder to your desktop (right-click and choose Extract all).

Start Killbox.exe. When it is open, enter the text in the quotebox into the field labeled "Full path of file to delete":

C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate\pohocywov.html
C:\Program Files\d.bat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dwja96a1.sys
C:\WINDOWS\v1201.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\??mbols\spool32.exe
C:\dfndrff_e47.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\w0da3554.dll
C:\kybrdff_e47.exe
C:\\WINDOWS\\ms035846013135.exe

C:\\Windows\\xpupdate.exe
c:\\windows\\system32\\_mzu_stonedrv3.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpcc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\wmstream32.dll

Select the Delete on reboot option.

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.

Your computer will reboot and check to see if the files are gone.

5. Run HijackThis, click the Config... button, then go to the Misc Tools section and click Open Uninstall Manager. You'll see a list of programs; click on Save List...

The file "uninstall_list.txt" will be created. Copy and paste the contents of this file to your next reply.

6. Run ComboFix once more and post the report in your next reply.

7. You have AVG AntiSpyware 7.5 on your computer. Update it and after that reboot into Safe mode: reboot and as the computer starts up, just before Windows starts to load, tap the F8 key a few times and then choose Safe Mode from the menu that will appear.
While in Safe mode run AVG and post the report it produces.

Please reboot to go back into Normal mode and post the AVG report along with the ComboFix report, the uninstall_list.txt, the Smitfraud report and a new HijackThis log.

Hi bcinc777,

thanks for your help

You're very welcome.

i reformatted and reinstalled windows.

Okay, that's your call of course but please be aware of future infections. For that reason I recommend:

a. Visit Windows Update on a regular basis to stay current with critical updates.

b. Use a Firewall. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones click: Understanding and Using Firewalls!

c. It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running (as you have by the way). For your information see this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources!

d. Install and run the following free programs:

* Ad-Aware SE
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here!

* Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found
here! Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

* SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here!

* SpywareGuard
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here!

* IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Keep all these programs (including your anti-virus) up-to-date and run them regularly.
If you do not update regularly they will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

e. I recommend you to read Tony Klein's excellent article: So how did I get infected in the first place?

f. If you want to fight back the Malware Writers, please take a look here!

Glad I was able to help and if there are any other problems related to your computer please feel free to post them in the appropriate forum. Though we help people with spyware and viruses here at BleepingComputer Forums, we also help people with other computer problems! Do not forget to tell your friends about us!

Good luck! :flowers:
