well it's a friends that i'm getting for free so i haven't done a cross examination yet but it won't work and when it's on it will not go into standy so it doesn't sound like it would be the disc reader or else it would at least go into the normal screen and go into standy.

You'll have to take your console into the repair shop.

That IS an idea about how to fix it though.....

Anyway, what model ps2 is it? Is it an old fat one or a new slim one?

I strongly suggest that you take USSR1943's well-meant advice on both issues.

Does the drawer open and shut? What happens when you put a disk in the drawer? Can we presume that you have carefully checked the cables that connect it to the television?
Regards,
John

If you put your ear to the box, can you hear the disk moving inside? I only want to rule out a malfunction there first. You might want to try a couple of PS2 positions: on its side, and then upside down. Oddly enough, sometimes this works. I suspect, though, that the arm is not in sync, which means a trip to the shop to get it aligned properly.
Hope this helps a little.
John

 scatch everything i said about that ps2 i have finally got it, and it's a slim.

okay, here it is: The ps2 does not play games nor make any noise or interact with the disk in any way detectable. It does not do anything when i press the reset button it just stays green and doesn't even blink. It doesn't go into the normal ps2 screen it doesn't even do anything on the tv screen when it is hooked up with it. Basically it is a overly bulky nightlight please help me, i will try to find a picture for it on my next post i can't upload an actual picture because of technicall difficulties, don't ask.

i never had to present a reciept or so on, you could call them and tell them your having problems, they will ask the most obvious question, "did you cuase any physical damage to it?" if not they will most likely fix it for you, mine was a year out of warranty but they did it anyway, they are nice people i'd give it a try if i was you.
p.s. i have an old bulky ps2
