Hi Reena,
welcome to BleepingComputer. My name is Rosty and I'm going to help you with your log.

Not all the O20's are Suspected File's!
The 020 that's on your log showing up is a legit one and belongs to Windows Genuine Advantage.

Do you have any problems?
Please let me know.

Please open HijackThis and click do a scan only and place a check next to the following entrie:
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {12345678-1234-1234-1234-1234567890AB} - (no file)

Close all other Windows and browsers, except HijackThis, and click Fix Checked.Exit HijackThis.

Next,update Java!

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Please reboot and post a new HijackThis log.

Regards,

Rosty.

Hi reena,
thanks for the log I asked about.

Thank you for the help, Rusty, and Greetings from the UK.

You're welcome. Greetings from Belgium and the name is Rosty.

Your log looks clean.
How are things running?

Disable and Enable System Restore. - You should disable and enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and re-enable system restore here:
Windows XP System Restore Guide.

Post back here and let me know how it went.

Regards,

Rosty.

Hi Reena,

good to hear you don't have any problems.

I now cannot read! I apologise, ROsty!

No need to apologise. That can happen.

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we at BC are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers. :flowers:

1) In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

SpywareGuard
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.

Ad-Aware SE
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here.

Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

Please make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place

Hopefully this should take care of your problems! Good luck. :D

With friendly regards,

Rosty.

Yes, I have all these programmes installed and I do check every day for updates and I run them regularly. They are all needed these days.

Thank you again.
