I keep getting his box reading "Could not initialize AVG Anti-virus kernal interface. Application cannot run."

Should I be worried or is this normal? Is my computer unsafe without an anti-virus running?

I've never liked AVG. Would it mess up my computer if I download another anti-virus program since AVG is screwed up?

I have also had problems with AVG antivirus. Installed Avast instead and have nothing but good to say about it. There is also a Tutorial on these forums on how to properly optimise your settings. Here's the link.

"Is my computer unsafe without an anti-virus running?"

It is as unsafe as leaving the door to your house open when you go to work in the morning.

"Would it mess up my computer if I download another anti-virus program since AVG is screwed up?"

Absolutely not, as long as you uninstall AVG completely. This would prevent any potential conflicts, e.g., with real-time protection, or the new AV reading the other's definitions and interpreting them as actual viruses.

Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one should be silent.
