If I go to RUN and enter winword.exe /a, it opens immediately. I assume that I have a corrupt file in the start up but cannot find it. Normal.dot does not exist on my computer.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi bmitche5
"Normal.dot" is a hidden file. If you have Office or word, you have it.
In Windows Explorer, click Tools>Folder Options>View Tab.
Make sure "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is selected and "Hide Extensions for Known File Types" is not.
Also, see my previous post on this issue here.

Thank you HitSquad,

I have followed your instructions and still cannot find a file called normal.dot. I have read your previous post as well, but no luck. IE also takes a lifetime to open on my computer, any suggestions?
