I was going through the Tutorial on safety and security on your PC and clicked on the link supplied to Trend Micro's Housecall.

I ticked the relevant boxes and clicked the download. I then got a message telling me I needed a Java download to proceed I okayed this and then IE crashed leaving the message below on my desktop.

I opened up IE again, returned to this site again clicked on the link and everything froze. It took 3 attempts using ctr-alt-delete to close IE.

The following is the report I got. Could someone have a look and see if there is a problem. Thanks in advance again.
Bluesjunior.

hello bluesjunior
Try running the test on Java's page. It also has an explanation of what appears to be the problem. See the workaround. Let us know.

 Hi :

It might be useful in helping you IF you went to : www.javatester.org/version.html
and told us what it indicates SPECIFICALLY as to WHAT "Java" you have, if any .

My experience is to go to : www.majorgeeks.com/download4648.html to download
the latest Sun Microsystems "JRE" Java .

I have the latest version of Java which is version 5 update 9 and also uninstalled the old one before I installed the new as recommended.

I did a Google search on EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) last night and it seems that it is a known problem going back a few years but I found no solution.

I will try the suggestions above but am not too bothered about it anymore. I thought it was some sort of a virus or something when it crashed IE.

I think it might possibly be something with the Sun Java site as a few weeks back just after finding this fine forum I tried to do a check with trend micro and three times IE crashed just before it was due to finish the scan, and that was while I had version 5 update 6 installed.

By the way thanks for the replies,
Bluesjunior.

PS.
I have just visited the Sun Java site and it has confirmed that I have the latest version and it is functioning correctly.

I've always had a hard time running Trend HouseCall though I've not had my browser crash as a result of trying. I've only been able to get it to work once, and that was through IE. I cannot get it to work at all through Firefox using their Firefox version of the housecall which uses Java.
