Recently my speakers started crackling whenever I had the sound on. It's slowly getting worse.

I've tested the problem on a second set of speakers and a pair of headphones. It exists on any set of speakers I use. I ran the sound diagnostics that come with windows and they claim the sound card is working fine. I don't know whether I need to replace the sound card or am suffering from interference from some outside electronics.

Any suggestions?

Is it onboard sound? A lot of those don't seem to be very good, and if it is I would recomend getting a good sound card.

It's a Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS. I should have included that in my first post.

Do you have another sound card you can put in and see if it does the same thing? Or maybe put your card into a friends computer and see what happens?

It was the sound card. Now I get to buy a new one. I listen to a lot of music, watch DVDs and I play a few games (both MM and single player).

Any suggestions or recommendations?

I like Creative my self, but go to www.newegg.com and see what they have. They usually have the best prices and consumers give reviews on the products so you can decide whether or not it's for you.

I went to newegg and bought a Creative X-fi.

I'm very happy with it. Static gone and sound is awesome. Way better than the Audigy I had.
