Hi all,

My ISP is AOL. One day I logged on my computer (Windows XP) and all my icons on my desktop were AOL icons and the programs were all mapped to open in AOL but of course they won't. I can go to a document I previously created and click on it through Start, My Computer, and the program works. I have never had a virus so I am not sure if this is one. What can I do? AOL works fine, but the other programs on my computer won't execute.

Thanks for any help offered.

You don't say how long it has been or if you have scanned for malware. A system restore might work. What security programs do you have? I believe AOL uses the Kaspersky program.

You may need to change the file associations by file type to change the application that should open the particular file. Are you talking about .exe files or, for example .jpeg and .doc file types?

John
