Depends on password to WHAT?
Passwords to sensitive data or secure applications should probably be changed at least every 6 months- - -more often if you share the computer with others or habitually get a lot of malware on your computer. These passwords should never be kept on the computer itself, but written down and kept in a secure location away from the computer.
Regards,
John

Actually, if your password is a combination of letters and numbers (and symbols if you like) that is longer than 6 characters and is random (no such word in the dictionary), you don't exactly need to change your password often. Brute Force Search would take forever.

John: Therefore, this guideline of every 6 month apply to when logging on?? For financial/investment/credit cards accounts?? For emails ?? for softwares..? Retail accounts?? Since it is advisable not to maintain file of passwords to sensitive accounts, than auto fill form would not be a secure practice(?). Thank you very much. YOYO.

I use a password generator, which I keep on removeable media. For sites like this forum, where there is no authentic info that can be stolen, I feel once every 6 months is fine. For sites that have my authentic info for financial/investment/credit cards accounts, I thry to change it once a month.
